Cabling and connecting the management console to the customer network

Before you begin

These settings are documented under the HMC option HMC network settings in the section Configuring the customer network settings.
Attention: Do not connect the Ethernet cable until you have entered the network settings that are provided by the customer.

Procedure

  1. Have you already set the customer Ethernet connection settings?
    • No, skip this step. Go to the next step.
    • Yes, do the following to route and connect the customer Ethernet cables to the management console (or to both management consoles, as required).
    1. Locate the customer-supplied Ethernet cables.
    2. Ensure that each cable is routed between the customer Ethernet connector and the system you are installing.
    3. Ensure that the customer end of each cable is connected to the customer network port.
    4. Route each cable to rear of the management enclosure cable management arm. Secure each cable as appropriate for the rack used.
    5. Connect each cable to the customer Ethernet port connector at the rear of the cable management arm. See Table 1.
Table 1. Management console customer network connections
Network connection Management console port Cable label

      Notes:
      1. This connection is by RPQ only. In all other cases, the cable is present but not connected.
Note: If the customer requests the Media Access Control (MAC) address of the HMC port they connect to, refer to MAP6010 Displaying the HMC MAC address for the customer connection.
  2. Continue with Powering on and verifying the storage facility.
