MAP2110 Isolating problems using visual symptoms

Visual symptoms can be used to begin a repair. In most cases you will be directed to first display and repair any serviceable events.

MAP2110 Section-1

Procedure

Use Table 1 and Table 2 to locate the visual symptom. Follow the description and actions.
Table 1. Rack operator panel indicators
Power Symptom Description and Action
Attention / Identify indicator is flashing and the service representative is not logged into the management console.

Description: The attention indicator is on for the first rack when an open serviceable event needing repair exists. The indicator will go off when the IBM® service representative logs in for service.

Action: At the management console, display the open problems and begin the repair.

Note: Each enclosure or RPC is cabled to the rack identity card and is capable of turning on the LED. When there is no open problem and the LED is lit, there probably should be an isolation procedure so that the IBM service representative can fix the problem.
Attention / Identify indicator is flashing and the service representative is logged into the management console.

Description: The indicator will flash when a FRU within the frame is being identified for replacement.

Action: The Identify LED will be turned off when the repair is complete.

Both Power Complete indicators are off.

Description: This is a normal condition when the storage facility is powered off, both primary power supplies will have some indicators on.

Action: If both PPSs have some indicators on, no action is needed. If both PPSs have indicators off, ensure the PPS input circuit breakers are on and have the customer restore line cord power.

One Power Complete indicator is off, the other Power Complete indicator is on.

Description: Primary power supply input power section problem.

Action:
  1. At the management console, display and repair any related problems.
  2. Observe the PPS front status display. If any codes are displayed, go to MAP2340 Codes on the PPS status display.
  3. Observe the PPS front LED indicators. If the 208VDC Power indicator and the DDM Power Good indicators are on, the front cover Power Complete indicator should be on. Replace the PPS.
Power Complete indicator is slow blinking.

Description: The indicator slow blinks if a problem has been detected. A code is displayed in the primary power supply status display.

Action:
  1. At the management console display and repair any related problems.
  2. Observe the PPS front status display. Go to MAP2340 Codes on the PPS status display.
Power Complete indicator is fast blinking.

Description: The indicator fast blinks while the storage facility is powering on.

Action: None. Wait a maximum of two minutes for the power on process to complete.

Table 2. PPS and RPC card visual symptoms
Power Symptom Description and Action
Both primary power supplies (PPSs) have all indicators off.

Description: This occurs when both customer line cords lose power or input circuit breakers are in the off position for both PPSs.

Action: Ensure the PPS input circuit breakers are on and have customer restore line cord power.

A code is displayed in the PPS status display.

Description: The PPS has detected an error condition.

Action: Go to MAP2340 Codes on the PPS status display.

Primary power supply indicators
Description: The following are the PPS indicators which can be as follows:
  • AC INPUT GOOD indicator is lit when customer line voltage is available to the PPS.
  • UEPO LOOP GOOD indicator is lit when the customer line voltage input is available to the PPS and the UEPO switch is in the normal position.
  • 208V POWER GOOD indicator is lit while the storage facility is in standby or is powered on.
  • DDM POWER GOOD indicator is lit when the storage facility is powered on or is being powered on. The LED is off while the storage facility is in standby power and while the storage facility is on battery power and the extended power line disturbance ride through time has expired.
  • PPS FAULT indicator is lit when a PPS fault has been detected. The PPS display will show an error code.
  • ON BATTERY POWER indicator is lit when line cord power has been lost to both PPSs.

Action: Use other visual symptoms to isolate ad correct any problems.

RPC card green indicator is off.

Description: The RPC card indicator LED is off when the line cord power is removed from the storage facility. The indicator is on when the RPC received standby control voltage from either PPS and has completed a boot of its firmware. If an RPC error is detected and is subsequently fenced (removed from service) the LED will be switched off and a serviceable event will be created.

Action: Display and repair any related problems.

PPS circuit breaker is tripped.

Description: An overcurrent condition in the PPS has occurred. Do not reset the circuit breaker.

Action: Display and repair any related problems.
