MAP6210 Restore HMC Critical Console Data from LPAR, LIC bundle VRMF 64.2.xxx.xxx or later

Use this MAP to restore the HMC critical console data from the LPAR. This restoration is normally needed only after the HMC hard drive code is reloaded.

About this task

If you are using the DS8000 storage management GUI, go to MAP6210 Section-2.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
  2. From the right work area, go to the Storage Server HMC Tasks section and click HMC Rebuild and Recovery. The HMC Rebuild and Recovery window opens.
  3. Select Recover Storage Facility, HMC, and Copy Services Manager Data and click Submit.
    Note: Do not select any other options unless directed by your next level of support.
  4. The restore HMC and storage facility critical data process runs automatically. The data is restored from an LPAR copy; there is no DVD involved in this process. The process can take 5 - 15 minutes. You are informed by messages about the success or failure of the restoration.
    After the process completes, you are prompted to reboot the HMC. Click OK to proceed with the reboot.
  5. If this is a dual-HMC configuration and you were directed to shut down the secondary management console (HMC2) as part of reloading the primary management console (HMC1), you might power on the secondary management console now.
    Note: In dual-HMC configurations at LIC bundle VRMF 64.2.xxx.xxx or later, a newly reloaded primary management console cannot communicate with the LPARs without additional actions. At this point in MAP6210, you either successfully recovered storage facility and HMC data on primary management console, or you use MAP6220 to reload the management console with no backup data. In either case, you can power on the secondary management console now.
  6. Was the restore HMC and storage facility critical data process successful?
    • Yes, go to step 8.
    • No, go to the next step.
  7. Did you just reload the management console LIC bundle before you came to MAP6210?
  8. Was the management console replaced?
    • Yes, go to step 10.
    • No, go to the next step.
  9. Restart the management console.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Operations section and click Shut Down or Restart. The Shutdown or Restart window opens.
    3. Select Restart HMC. Click OK.
    4. Go to step 11.
  10. Re-harvest HMC VPD and restart the management console.
    Note: This process clears the existing HMC object, and reboots the HMC to update the object.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Storage Server HMC Tasks section and click Re-harvest HMC VPD. The Re-harvest HMC VPD Confirmation window opens.
    3. Click Yes.
    4. When the HMC object is successfully cleared, the Re-harvest HMC VPD - Reboot window opens.
    5. Click OK. The HMC reboots.
  11. When the management console pre-login screen appears, log on to the management console .
  12. Run the discover storage facility task to refresh the resources that are displayed by the HMC screens.
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click Discover Storage Facility. You can click this option only once.
  13. Did the Discover Storage Facility task run successfully?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, contact your next level of support.
  14. Verify that each storage facility, storage facility image, partition, and CEC is displayed correctly:
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > Storage Facility > Server View.
  15. Are the entries displayed correctly?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, contact your next level of support.
  16. Restart the management console.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Operations section and click Shut Down or Restart. The Shutdown or Restart window opens.
    3. Select Restart HMC. Click OK.
    4. Return here and go to the next step.
  17. If this is a dual-HMC configuration, go to the partner management console (the management console that you are not rebuilding) and restart the management console.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Operations section and click Shut Down or Restart. The Shutdown or Restart window opens.
    3. Select Restart HMC. Click OK.
    4. Return here and go to the next step on the management console that you are rebuilding.
  18. Ensure that the customer can access the DS8000® Storage Manager application.
  19. Check for missing install corrective service (ICS) and reinstall ICS.
    1. From the navigation area, click Updates > storage facility > Verify Bundle Installed > code level.
    2. In the ICS Images section, find the list of ICS images that need to be reinstalled, find the ICS media, and reinstall them.
  20. For LIC bundle 88.50.xx.xx or later, the customer can change the default user ID or password. Contact the customer that the user ID and password of the HMC are restored to default values. See MAP66B0 Password management.

MAP6210 Section-2

About this task

If you are using the Service interface, go to MAP6210 Section-1.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation area, click Service > HMC Management > HMC Rebuild and Recovery to open the HMC Rebuild and Recovery window.

  8. Restart the management console.
    1. Select the Settings icon from the left side of the navigation area, click Support > Troubleshooting.
    2. In the right work area, click Restart Local HMC. A confirmation window opens.
    3. Click Yes to restart the HMC.
    4. Go to step 10.
  9. Re-harvest HMC VPD and restart the management console.
    Note: This process clears the existing HMC object, and reboots the HMC to update the object.
    1. Select the Monitoring icon from the left side of the navigation area, click System.
    2. From the navigation area, click Service > HMC Management > Re-harvest HMC VPD. The Re-harvest HMC VPD Confirmation window opens.
    3. Click Yes.
    4. When the HMC object is successfully cleared, the Re-harvest HMC VPD - Reboot window opens.
    5. Click OK. The HMC reboots.
  10. When the DS8000 storage management GUI login screen appears, log on to the DS8000 storage management GUI.
  11. Looking at the dashboard on the system area, verify that the Storage Facility, Storage Facility Image, CECs, and LPARs are displayed correctly without any errors.

    Are the entries displayed correctly?

    • Yes, go to step 20.
    • No, go to the next step.
  12. Log into the Service interface.
    1. From the navigation area, click Service > Service GUI.
    2. Log on to the management console.
  13. Run the discover storage facility task to refresh the resources that are displayed by the HMC screens.
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click Discover Storage Facility. You can click this option only once.

    • Yes, go to the next step.

    3. Click Yes to restart the HMC.
    4. Return here and go to the next step on the management console that you are rebuilding.
  18. If this is a dual-HMC configuration, restart the partner management console (the management console that you are not rebuilding).
    1. Select the Settings icon from the left side of the navigation area, click Support > Troubleshooting.
    2. In the right work area, click Restart Remote HMC. A confirmation window opens.
    3. Click Yes to restart the HMC.
    4. Return here and go to the next step.
  19. Return to the DS8000 storage management GUI.
  20. Check for missing install corrective service (ICS) and reinstall ICS.
    1. Select Service > Install Firmware > Verify Bundle Installed > code level.
    2. In the ICS Images section, find the list of ICS images that need to be reinstalled, find the ICS media, and reinstall them.
  21. For LIC bundle 88.50.xx.xx or later, the customer can change the default user ID or password. Contact the customer that the user ID and password of the HMC are restored to default values. See MAP66B0 Password management.
