MAP5500 PCIe optical transceiver link fault

MAP5500 Section-1

Procedure

  1. Are you here because of a failed PCIe optical transceiver wrap test?
Note: Wrap test failure during MES is considered a failed wrap test.
  2. Are you here to perform a wrap test during an MES to add a PCIe optical transceiver?

MAP5500 Section-2 Perform PCIe optical transceiver wrap test (reported error)

Before you begin

You are here because a customer problem was reported or a serviceable event referred you to MAP5500.

Procedure

  1. Display serviceable events that need repair. See MAP1210 Displaying and repairing a serviceable event.

Are there any serviceable events that involve this transceiver or PCIe and PCN card that do not include MAP5500?

    • Yes. Exit this MAP and repair the serviceable event that involves the transceiver or PCIe and PCN card.
    • No, go to the next step.
Important: The optical cable plugs (MPO or MTP connectors) and transceiver ports must be cleaned before you connect them. Use cleaning tool 43W3044 or IBM-approved alternative. Cleaning procedures are provided with the tool. After you clean the transceiver ports with the tool, use air bulb 45D2645 or IBM-approved alternative. For detailed procedures, refer to current DS8000 Info Alerts or contact your next level of support.
  2. Is the zHyperLink cable properly connected to the PCIe optical transceiver?
  3. Is the PCIe optical transceiver securely connected to the PCIe and PCN card?
  4. Run the wrap test to determine whether the PCIe optical transceiver is failing.
Note: A PCIe optical transceiver wrap plug (IBM® P/N 74Y0792 or equivalent) is required for this test. The test procedure prompts you to insert the plug. Perform the same cleaning procedure for the wrap plug as for optical cable plugs.
    1. At the management console, from the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Manage FRUs....
    3. Click Show I/O Enclosures.
    4. Select the I/O enclosure location and click Show zHyperLinks.
    5. Select the zHyperLink port and click Perform Wrap Test.
    6. When directed to insert the wrap plug, disconnect the zHyperLink cable from the PCIe optical transceiver and insert the wrap plug.
  5. Did the test run successfully?
Important: The optical cable plugs (MPO or MTP connectors) and transceiver ports must be cleaned before you connect them. Use cleaning tool 43W3044 or IBM-approved alternative. Cleaning procedures are provided with the tool. After you clean the transceiver ports with the tool, use air bulb 45D2645 or IBM-approved alternative. For detailed procedures, refer to current DS8000 Info Alerts or contact your next level of support.
  6. The wrap test was successful. Remove the wrap plug from the PCIe optical transceiver and reconnect the zHyperLink cable, if you have not already done so.
  7. Go to MAP5500 Section-5 zHyperLink link status.
Note: The wrap test was successful. If link status is not good, the problem is with the cable or the host end. Exit this MAP and continue the troubleshooting at the host end.

MAP5500 Section-3 Perform PCIe optical transceiver wrap test (MES)

Before you begin

You are here to perform a wrap test as part of an MES to add a PCIe optical transceiver.

Procedure

  1. Is the PCIe optical transceiver securely connected to the PCIe and PCN card?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, connect the transceiver. Go to the next step.
    6. When directed to insert the wrap plug, remove the dust cover from the PCIe optical transceiver and insert the wrap plug.
  3. Did the test run successfully?
  4. Remove the wrap plug from the PCIe optical transceiver and reinsert the dust cover.
  5. Close this procedure to exit, and continue with the MES.

MAP5500 Section-4 PCIe optical transceiver wrap test failed

Before you begin

You are here because a wrap test failed.

Procedure

  1. Did you enter this MAP directly from a serviceable event FRU list?
    • Yes, you entered this MAP directly from a serviceable event FRU list. Go to step 2.
    • No, you entered this MAP for a customer-reported problem or MES. Go to step 3.
  2. You entered this MAP directly from a FRU list. Exit this MAP and continue with the hardware FRUs in the list.
    1. Exit the MAP to return to the screen that sent you here.
    2. To the question, "What was the result of using the service procedure?" click Problem not fixed and then click Next.
    3. To the question, "Did you exchange any parts?" click No and then click Next.
    4. To the question, "Did you isolate the problem?" click No and then click Next.
    5. The next FRU in the list is displayed. Replace the FRU or, if you already replaced it, continue with the remaining FRUs in the list.
    6. If the failing wrap test occurred during an exchange of the PCIe and PCN card, close any serviceable events that led to replacing that card (not including the wrap test failure that sent you here).
This ends the procedure for the serviceable event FRU list.
  3. Display serviceable events that need repair. See MAP1210 Displaying and repairing a serviceable event.
Note: A new serviceable event should be open for the failed wrap test.

Are there any serviceable events that involve this transceiver or PCIe and PCN card?

MAP5500 Section-5 zHyperLink link status

Before you begin

A zHyperLink connection is restored. You are here to confirm the link status.

Procedure
