Exchange the power junction assembly (PJA)

Attention:

This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.

Notes:

All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600.

Determine rack version

Procedure

Determine the rack version.

At the rear of Rack-1, observe the location of the Rack identity and Local remote switch cards. See Figure 1.
Version 1, the cards are vertical and mounted to the left sidewall, go to Section-1 Rack Version 1.
Version 2, the cards are horizontal and mounted to the top of the rack, go to Section-2 Rack Version 2.

Section-1 Rack Version 1

Remove the power junction assembly (PJA) (rack version 1)

Procedure

To locate this FRU, take one of the following actions and then return here and continue to replace the FRU:
- If this FRU has a FRU identify indicator, use the FRU identify indicator, which is listed in MAP1240 Locating FRUs by using identify indicators. If not, use the location code.
  Note: There might be cases where the FRU failure or fencing conditions prevent the FRU LED indicator from being lit even if the FRU has power.
- Use the location code, which is listed in MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.
- If there is no FRU identify indicator or location code, you were sent here by an isolation MAP or symbolic FRU procedure. Use the information in that procedure and the figures in this procedure to locate the proper part to exchange.

Most, but not all, FRUs have identify indicators. Use the flashing amber or solid blue FRU identify indicators to ensure that you are working on the correct enclosure or FRU.
- The light path identify LEDs are a hierarchy of LEDs that can identify the rack, enclosure, FRU, and even the FRU connector to which a cable is connected.
- For more information, refer to MAP1240 Locating FRUs by using identify indicators.
At the rear of the rack, remove the sheet metal air baffle above the Ethernet switch tray. See Figure 3.
1. Loosen the two screws securing the air baffle to the vertical EIA rails.
2. Lift the air baffle up to clear the two screws .
3. The two sections of the air baffle pivot around the pin .
4. Lift up section slot so it clears section tab .
5. Pivot both sections towards each other so it easily clears the cables as you take it out of the rack.

Disconnect the cables in the following order:
1. Cross cable, J9
2. Input cables J3, J5, J7
3. Output cables J1, J2, J4, J6, J8

Remove the power junction assembly. Untie the cable ties.

Install the power junction assembly (PJA) (rack version 1)

Procedure

Install the power junction assembly. Secure the cable ties.
Connect the cables in the following order:
1. Cross cable, J9
2. Output cables J1, J2, J4, J6, J8
3. Input cables J3, J5, J7
Observe the PJA LEDs.
- If they are all lit, continue at the next step.
- If one or more LEDs are not lit, refer to MAP2730 Visual symptoms for Ethernet switch tray (switches, fans, power junction assemblies) (Model 961). Some of the LED not lit conditions cannot be detected by the FRU verification tests, so you should use the MAP to isolate the visual symptom now.
Install the sheet metal air baffle above the Ethernet tray.

Section-2 Rack Version 2

Remove the power junction assembly (PJA) (rack version 2)

Procedure

To locate this FRU, take one of the following actions and then return here and continue to replace the FRU:
- If this FRU has a FRU identify indicator, use the FRU identify indicator, which is listed in MAP1240 Locating FRUs by using identify indicators. If not, use the location code.
  Note: There might be cases where the FRU failure or fencing conditions prevent the FRU LED indicator from being lit even if the FRU has power.
- Use the location code, which is listed in MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.
- If there is no FRU identify indicator or location code, you were sent here by an isolation MAP or symbolic FRU procedure. Use the information in that procedure and the figures in this procedure to locate the proper part to exchange.

At the rear of the rack, pull the two spring loaded catches and let the PJA tray swing down. See Figure 5.
Disconnect the cables in the following order:
1. Cross cable, J9
2. Input cables J3, J5, J7
3. Output cables J1, J2, J4, J6, J8

Remove the power junction assembly. Untie the cable ties.

Install the power junction assembly (PJA) (rack version 2)

Procedure

Install the power junction assembly. Secure the cable ties.
Connect the cables in the following order:
1. Cross cable, J9
2. Output cables J1, J2, J4, J6, J8
3. Input cables J3, J5, J7
Observe the PJA LEDs.
- If they are all lit, continue at the next step.
- If one or more LEDs are not lit, refer to MAP2730 Visual symptoms for Ethernet switch tray (switches, fans, power junction assemblies) (Model 961). Some of the LED not lit conditions cannot be detected by the FRU verification tests, so you should use the MAP to isolate the visual symptom now.
Swing the PJA tray up and latch the two spring loaded catches.
