Exchange the CEC enclosure I/O backplane assembly

Before you begin

Attention:

This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.

Notes:

All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600.

Remove the CEC enclosure I/O backplane assembly

Procedure

Verify that the CEC enclosure is in the "power off" state before you continue. (The CEC enclosure should already be in the power off state.)
Note: If this FRU has a FRU identify indicator LED, it is no longer lit.
If you have not already located the FRU to be replaced, use the location code listed in the serviceable event FRU list. See MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.
At the rear of the storage facility, view both CEC enclosure power supplies.

Are both DC GOOD LEDs flashing?
- Yes, continue with the next step.
- No, do not continue with this FRU replacement. Go to MAP4840 CEC enclosure fails to power off during CEC enclosure parts exchange to fix the problem with the CEC enclosure not being in the power off state.
Use a replacement part with a valid DS8000® part number to ensure that the DS8000-unique firmware is already installed and configured.
Attempting to use a generic part from an eServer™ will fail and complicate the repair.
Remove all power from the CEC enclosure.
- At the rear of the CEC enclosure, disconnect the power input cables to both CEC enclosure power supplies.
- At the CEC enclosure control panel, observe the green Power® Present icon, beneath the white Power button.
  - If it is slow flashing, the CEC enclosure is still in the power-off state. DO NOT CONTINUE. Ensure that you have unplugged the power cables.
  - If it is off, go to the next step.

Remove both power supplies. See Figure 3.
1. Push the handle latch to release the handle.
2. Lift the handle up and into the open position.
3. Using the handle, pull the power supply out of the power supply bay.
  CAUTION:
  This part or unit is heavy, but has a weight smaller than 18 kilograms (39.7 pounds). Use care when lifting, removing, or installing this part or unit.
4. Repeat these steps until both power supplies are removed.

Unplug the remaining cables from the rear of the CEC enclosure.
Remove the PCIe adapter cards and empty cassettes from slots 1 through 5. See Figure 4.
1. Label each PCIe to be removed. Each PCIe card must be reinstalled in the same slot later in this procedure.
2. Remove all cables from the PCIe cards.
3. Lift and hold the PCIe adapter EMC shield in the open position.
  Ensure that you slide up, before you swing the EMC shield up.
4. Lift the lower cassette handle up as shown.
5. Pull the PCIe card out of the CEC enclosure.
6. Lower the PCIe card EMC shield into the closed position.
7. Repeat these steps until all PCIe cards have been removed.

Remove the CEC enclosure RIO card from slot 8. See Figure 5.
1. Unscrew the latch screw .
2. Pull the latch toward you and down to release the CEC enclosure RIO card .
3. Pull the CEC enclosure RIO card from the enclosure.

Remove the PCIe four port card or filler from slot 9.
Note: Some Model 941 configurations will have a filler card in this location.
1. Unscrew the latch screw .
2. Pull the latch toward you and down to release the PCIe four port card .
3. Pull the PCIe four port card from the enclosure.

Remove the service processor card. See Figure 7.
1. Disconnect all cables connected to the service processor assembly.
2. Press the thumb release on the service processor assembly to unlock the handle.
3. Pull the handle to the right to unseat the service processor assembly.
4. Pull the service processor assembly from the I/O backplane assembly using the handle and supporting the bottom of the card.

Pull out the Vital Product Data (VPD) card by the blue handle. See Figure 8.

At the front of the CEC enclosure, remove the control panel by pressing the locking tabs located on either side of the panel, grasping the edges of the panel, and pulling it out of its bay . See Figure 9.

Remove all system processor voltage cards. See Figure 10.
1. Squeeze the top of the latch to release it .
2. Rotate the latch out and then down .
3. Grasp the pull ring and slowly pull the system processor voltage card out of the enclosure .
  Attention: Pulling the system processor voltage card out of the card enclosure requires a large amount of force. The system processor voltage card is of substantial weight, so grasp it firmly when it is free of the card enclosure.

Unlock the system processor backplane assembly and then pull it out of the CEC enclosure . See Figure 11.
Attention: The system processor backplane assembly weighs 35 lb and should not be pulled out using the blue lever. Grasp the backplane assembly firmly with both hands when it is free of the system.

Remove the removable media device enclosure filler. See Figure 12.
1. Pull the two orange locking knobs out until they unlock.
2. Grasp the removable media device enclosure filler and slowly pull it out of the disk drive enclosure.

Remove both fans. Pull the ring downward to disengage it from the system chassis and then pull the fan out of the CEC enclosure. See Figure 13.

Remove the disk drive enclosure. See Figure 14.
1. Press down and pull out to open the handles on the lower edge of the disk drive enclosure.
2. Pull the disk drive enclosure toward you to remove it from the system unit.

At the front of the CEC enclosure, loosen the thumbscrews inside the enclosure at the front of the I/O backplane. See Figure 15.

At the rear of the CEC enclosure, slide the backplane from the enclosure. See Figure 16.

Remove the CEC enclosure VPD pass-through card from the I/O backplane assembly by pulling it straight up and out of the I/O backplane assembly. See Figure 17.

Install the CEC enclosure I/O backplane assembly

Procedure

Install the CEC enclosure VPD pass-through card on the new I/O backplane assembly.
1. Note the metal tab on the top edge of the pass-through card.
2. Insert the card into the connector on the I/O backplane ensuring that the metal tab engages the slot on the top edge of the shroud for the power supplies.
  Attention: If the tab does not engage the slot in the shroud, the pass-through card will not connect securely, and damage to the pins on the connector could occur.
At the rear of the CEC enclosure, carefully slide the I/O backplane assembly into the CEC enclosure.
At the front of the CEC enclosure, tighten the two thumbscrews to fasten the I/O backplane assembly into the CEC enclosure.
Carefully slide the system processor backplane assembly into the CEC enclosure. Press it into place, and then lock it with the locking arm.
Install the system processor voltage cards.
1. Ensure that the system processor voltage card latch is rotated out to the unlocked position.
2. Carefully grasp the system processor voltage card and slide it into the enclosure.
3. When the system processor voltage card is almost all the way into the card enclosure, rotate the latch up into the locked position.
Install the disk drive enclosure.
1. Carefully slide the CEC disk drive enclosure into the CEC enclosure until you feel it lock into place.
2. Close the handles to secure it into the proper position.
Push both CEC enclosure fans all the way into the fan slots, and then lift the attached rings up to lock the fans into place.
Install the removable media device enclosure filler.
1. Pivot the CEC enclosure fan orange pull rings up out of the way.
2. Gently slide the removable media device enclosure filler into place.
3. Push the two orange locking knobs into the locked position.
Gently slide the control panel into place, and ensure the locking tabs on both sides of the control panel lock into place.
At the rear of the CEC enclosure, install both power supplies.
1. Push the power supply in place.
2. Close the locking handle.
Install the VPD card with the key oriented to the right and push until fully seated.
Install the service processor.
1. Ensure that the service processor handle is rotated to the down position.
2. Slide the service processor assembly all the way into the card slot in the system enclosure.
3. Push the handle toward the service processor assembly until the release tab locks the handle in place. This will secure the service processor assembly into the card slot.
Install the PCIe four port card or filler into slot 9.
1. With the latch in the down position, slide the card in to the enclosure.
2. When it stops, raise the latch to the vertical position.
3. Install the latch screw.
Install the CEC enclosure RIO card into slot 8.
1. With the latch in the down position, slide the card in to the enclosure.
2. When it stops, raise the latch to the vertical position.
3. Install the latch screw.
Install the PCIe cassettes in slots 1 through 5. Ensure that the PCIe cassettes with adapter cards are in their original slots.
1. Ensure the lower cassette handle of the FRU is pressed up toward the retainer clip. This places the adapter in the correct position to be docked in the system.
2. Lift and hold the PCIe adapter EMC shield in the open position.
3. Slide the cassette into the cassette slot as shown in
  Figure 18.

4. When the cassette is fully inserted into the system, firmly press downward on the lower cassette handle to lock the adapter in its connector.
5. Lower the PCIe adapter EMC shield into the closed position and then slide the lift tab down to secure it.
For a model 951 CEC enclosure, ensure both USB ports are protected by the metal cover held in place by the Torx T6 screw . If the new FRU did not include the cover, reuse the cover from the original FRU.

Connect all the cables except the power supply input cables.
Connect the power input cables to both CEC enclosure power supplies.
Ensure that the CEC enclosure is in power-off state before continuing. At the CEC enclosure control panel, wait for the green Power Present Icon beneath the white Power button to slow blink.
Refer to MAP4075 Restoring VPD after replacing the CEC enclosure I/O backplane assembly (Models 94x, 95x) to check and set the CEC enclosure location code in the VPD on the FRU. Then, return here and continue at the next step.
Note: If the CEC enclosure location code is not correct, the FRU verification may fail with SRC B155B071.
